Annual contributions towards the upkeep of common areas in Ashefield

Hello all, you can use this direct link to contribute towards the upkeep of the estate: paypal.me/ashefield

Many thanks to everyone who contribute – we publish the accounts of Ashefield Residents Association every year and review them in the AGM. Your valuable contribution goes towards the upkeep of estate common areas that are the responsibility of the residents e.g. grass cutting and general maintenance.

Proposed new entrance from Ashefield to 22-unit planned development

Westmeath Co. Co. is planning a 22 housing unit development in the area between Ashefield and St. Bridget’s Terrace. An access point to this is proposed from within Ashefield. A group of residents is planning to raise concerns with local representatives about this. A gathering is planned for 7pm tonight (Tues 31 May) at the proposed access point within the estate.

Tree pruning in Ashefield

Hello all, the trees in Ashefield are on Westmeath County Council’s schedule for inspection, and where necessary, pruning. This work is expected to make a huge difference to areas in almost complete darkness due to streetlamps totally blocked by overgrown trees. Thanks to Cllr. Ken Glynn for the representation at council level about this.

More fly-tipping reported

More fly-tipping was reported in the laneway connecting Abbeylands and Ashefield. This extended into the common green area in Ashefield. This case was reported to Westmeath County Council. We encourage you to contact the Environment Department in the council directly if you spot further fly-tipping to help ensure a speedy response.

Upkeep of estate common areas for 2021 and last year’s accounts

We hope you and all your family are healthy and are staying safe. As always, thank you for your support in 2020. A special thanks to those that have already paid their 2021 contributions both via PayPal or by giving directly to a committee member.

Donations collected annually from residents and landlords directly support the upkeep of common areas in the estate. The main expense incurred is the grass cutting in the common green areas

We will gratefully accept any contribution people can make so that we can continue the work of keeping the grass cut in the common green areas. In 2020 and previous years, we requested €20 per house and indeed some people have again paid this amount already this year. I am sure you will agree that having these green areas available for the children to play in has been a big help in recent times.

Cutting the grass in the common area and other minor expenses cost approximately €1,380 in 2020; the accounts for 2020 are available below for your review.

Contributions may be made securely via the PayPal link on this website or directly to any committee member.

Thanks once again for your support in 2020. We will follow up regarding plans for an AGM in 2021.

Kind Regards

Joe Gettings -Chairperson Ashefield Residents Association

Access into Ashefield proposed in new planning development – have your say

Dear residents, a 98-home development planning application adjacent to Ashefield includes a proposed pedestrian link into Ashefield. The proposed pedestrian link would be closest to #76 and facing the line of homes from #64 upwards. Given our long history of dumping and anti-social issues with pedestrian walkways between estates, not to mention a potential loss of privacy, and noise & disturbance resulting from its use, you may want to consider having your say in the planning process via a submission or observation to Westmeath County Council. Contact planning@westmeathcoco.ie if you need further information/help.

  • A payment of €20 to Westmeath County Council must accompany your submission/observation
  • The submission/observation must include the following:
    • Include the planning file number : 2197
    • Your name and address
    • E-mail address, if any, of the person or body making the submission/observation
    • Indicate the address to which any correspondence relating to the application should be sent.

In addition to individual submissions, please note that Ashefield Residents Association has provided a submission regarding the application. Thanks to everyone who provided input for this.

Updates from the estate and appeal for donations

A request for the trees in the estate to be added to the council’s pruning calendar was submitted to Cllr. Ken Glynn. Quite a few of these trees are blocking street lamps. In addition, one of the street lamps in the estate (shown on the map below), which has been broken since at least Feb of this year was added to the list for help.

We are appealing for donations to help us all cover the cost of maintaining the grass in the common areas as contributions so far this year have been very low. The regular cuttings and other minor expenses cost approximately €1,380 in 2019 . The full breakdown of how your donations are used are always published for your review.

Best wishes to you and your families from your neighbours in Ashefield Residents Association

Update: Update: the trees in the estate will be inspected by the council for pruning and the broken light should be fixed by the end of the month. Many thanks to Cllr. Ken Glynn for the action and update!
