Annual collection of resident contributions and remedial works

The upkeep of the common areas in the estate is the responsibility of the residents. This includes grass cutting of common green areas,  replacement of house number street signs in the estate, repairs to estate walls that are not the responsibility of the council, and any other remedial works that may be necessary. These works were outlined in the recent AGM.

The grass cutting season has already started and the first part of the remedial work plan – replacement of house number street signs – is underway.

To help cover to the costs of these works, the residents association have been collecting €30 per household every year. 100% of these contributions go directly towards these works and the full accounts for the resident association are made public.

Volunteer residents from the association will be circulating around the estate in the coming weeks with a view to collecting a contribution of €30 per household. We do realise that times are hard and living costs are climbing but your valued support is being requested once again this year. The €30 contribution is approximately 60 cents per week, which is a modest sum considering the work it achieves. This request is being made to all residents; either renting their home or as owners.

Sincere thanks to all the residents and community groups for their contributions and support.  We are sure that you will do your best to support us in our efforts to maintain  the estate that will all live in.

Antisocial behaviour

The Gardaí have been notified regarding incidents of egg-throwing at houses near the front of the estate.  If you have witnessed this, happen to spot this occurring, or may have CCTV footage, please contact Mullingar Gardaí (preferably). You can also send an email info@165.227.235.101 and this information will be passed on.

Another theft in the area

A generator was stolen from the front of a house in Ashefield early on Wed morning, June 22.  If you might have noticed anything suspicious in the area during the period from midnight to 2am on Wed, 22nd, contact Mullingar Garda station at +353 44 934 8915.  It was a large item so a van or trailer might have been used.  Due to the apparently rising level of theft in the general Mullingar area, it would be a good idea to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the Gardaí immediately.

Lawnmower theft

A lawnmower was stolen from a shed at the rear of a house in Ashefield between Friday and Saturday. If you noticed anything suspicious during Friday or Saturday, April 22-23, 2011 in the vicinity of houses #156-164, please do contact Mullingar Gardaí at 044 9384000 or using their confidential line at 1800 666 111

This appears to be the latest instance in a rise in burglaries in the Mullingar area. It would be a good idea to check that your sheds and gates are securely locked, all valuable items are out of sight, and tools or implements that could be used to gain entry to houses or sheds are not left lying around. If you do spot anyone or persons behaving suspiciously in the area, please contact the Gardaí and don’t assume someone else has.

Children playing ball games in the street

A report was received that local children using a wall close to houses near the front of the estate for football have damaged a house window and regularly hit cars with the balls also .  Despite different groups  having been asked on numerous occasions by local residents to use one of the green areas instead, they refuse to.

In one recent case, a resident witnessed a ball cracking the front window of a house and setting off the alarm.

One solution is to ask parents to encourage their children not to play in the middle of the street and to use the green areas for ball games instead (and under supervision for safety purposes).  In addition to the potential for further damage to property, there exists a real danger  of an incident involving a moving car given that is the busiest point of the estate in terms of traffic.  This problem has been noted for a future residents’ association meeting.

House fire

Late on Friday night/ early Saturday morning, the fire brigade and gardaí attended a house fire in Ashefield. The house was recently vacated by tenants so was unoccupied and empty at the time. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the cause of the fire may have been an electrical fault close to the front entrance, which appears to have caused extensive smoke damage throughout the building.

The gardaí are monitoring the house until it can be made safe.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing dense black smoke clouds from this fire; it serves as a stark reminder of the importance to install and regularly check that your smoke alarms are in working order. Learn more about how to keep your home and your family safe from fire.
